The second book in a terrific series by New York Times bestselling author Ellery Adams.

Welcome to Hope Street Church, where friendships are formed, fresh starts are encouraged, and mysteries are solved.

Cooper Lee and her friends in the Hope Street Bible study group have just volunteered for a local charity, delivering much-needed food and cheer to shut-ins in their community. It seems like the perfect way for the group to do good, and to Cooper it offers the welcome opportunity to get out of the house and spend more time with her new boyfriend, Nathan. But when one of the charity’s recipients is murdered, the police have no choice but to single out the church group and their fellow volunteers as the prime suspects.

Determined to make sure no evil deed goes unpunished, Cooper and her friends decide to discreetly interrogate each volunteer in their search for the killer, even if it means putting themselves at risk in the process. And as serving the needy becomes more treacherous than any of them could have imagined, they just might discover that the road to murder is paved with good intentions.

Includes heavenly recipes from Magnolia Lee’s kitchen!

A Note from the Author

Dear Reader,

The Hope Street mysteries were originally published by St. Martin’s Press and written under the name Jennifer Stanley. The titles, in order, were
Stirring Up Strife, Path of the Wicked, and The Way of the Guilty.

I have completely rewritten all three novels and am now publishing them under the name Ellery Adams as The Path of the Crooked, The Way of the Wicked, and The Graves of the Guilty.

If you’ve read the original books, you will find the basic plot of the above titles unchanged. My intention was to polish the writing in each installment and rerelease the novels as crisper, cleaner, more engaging books. Stay tuned for forthcoming novels in the Hope Street mystery series as well.

Thank you for supporting cozy mysteries.

Your friend,
Ellery Adams

The Hope Street Church Bible Study Group volunteers to deliver meals to folks who cannot get out or are low income people with little or no family to help them--mostly elderly.
Some of the elderly folks who receive meals begin to be found dead and small items of some value are missing. Is there a serial killer among the volunteers? Is the meal program being targeted?
This story certainly has some interesting characters and moves along well.
The Hope Street Church Bible Study Group is a welcoming and solid group of individuals who not only come to Bible Study on Sunday Mornings but also support each other and end up solving crimes along the way--often adding another soul to their group in the process.
This series (Hope Street Church) is a good light mystery series. While it isn't as suspenseful and heart pounding as some of the more dark thrillers, it is full of characters that you can't help but like and wish they were in your Bible Study Group and group of friends.
I enjoy the fact that I can read this and it keeps my attention but doesn't have all of the intense language and gratuitous sexual situations that many mysteries seem to think are important.
I would liken it to the Murder She Wrote TV series. Likable small town normal folks who get caught up in situations. Of course, as with Cabbot Cove in Murder, She Wrote, if the place was real, the murder rate would be crazy high per capita. LOL
I started the Hope Street Church series after reading and enjoying her Supper Club Mysteries. All in all, a good read about good down to earth people.

The Way of the Wicked Hope Street Church Mysteries Book 2 edition by Ellery Adams Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

Cooper Lee originally joined her bible study group while healing after a devastating break-up. As the months have passed she's grown close to the other members and has even begun a tentative relationship with one of them. The group is doing volunteer work for Door-2-Door, a charity that provides food and other necessities to housebound seniors. But stolen valuables and suspicious deaths show that not everyone is interested in helping the seniors...someone is preying on their vulnerable clientele. Cooper and her friends find themselves in an ideal position to not only assist the police in their investigation, but to do a little snooping of their own.

This is the second book in this series and Cooper continues to shine. The author has chosen to portray the character in a very realistic light, facing challenges and making choices that many women in their early thirties can identify with. In this book we also get to see the character of Nathan, Cooper's potential love interest, develop. By far the best part of the story for me was watching the couple take those first few steps (and missteps) towards forming a relationship.

The mystery was nicely done, with plenty of viable suspects and motives.

The author has introduced a lot of characters in this series, so it's understandable (but still a little frustrating) that some of them come across as rather vague or one dimensional. For instance, Cooper's mother seems a little too good to be true, a bit of a stereotype. Ditto Savannah, the leader of the bible study group. We'll have to see if they grow as characters as the series progresses.

I think the author deserves a lot of credit for building a series around a bible study group and yet never coming across as "preachy". I'm not sure how she does it, but she does pull it off. I'll admit that there are times that I struggle with the "sweetness" factor, but if the author chooses to present things in a positive light then...Yeah for her; there's enough negativity out there and this series is a nice respite from all that.

No swearing or sexual content. I'd recommend starting with the first book, "Stirring Up Strife".
Another fun & enjoyable story by Ellery Adams! I love her books. Each one of the Hope St. Church's mystery's have well developed personalities which are fun, enjoyable and likable. Cooper being the main character as we get to become involved with her family & friends, at home and at work but her interactions with the church group develops into helping other's. And we have a murder to solve the little group decides!! This book has the church group volunteering to help package and deliver meals to the elderly. But someone is poisoning their seniors meals and stealing from them!!! The group decides the police are not taking the deaths seriously so they decide to do a little investigating of their own. Mean while Cooper's romance with Nathan seems to be heating up. At the same time that a new very male employee at work takes an interest in Cooper!
Cooper Lee and her friends at Hope Street Church are back for a second adventure. As members of the Bible study group of the church, they have bonded in to a tightly knit bunch of friends who work to solve problems in the community as well as in their own lives. Cooper has gained more self confidence, and her cohorts are growing also.

The friends have volunteered to work with a local Meals on Wheels type organization and find that they have been served with a mysterious set of murders!! Unfortunately, Cooper and all the Door-2-Door volunteers find themselves under suspicion, As more bodies show up, Cooper and Co. throw themselves into the investigation, behind the scenes of course, By the time the culprit has been brought to justice, one family mystery has been solved, Cooper and her sister bond over a set of problems of their own, and a jail inmate gains new hope, thanks to Cooper.

Again, the message of hope is a stream in the background that spreads not only to the characters, but to the reader as well.

Marvelous recipes from Cooper's mother, Magnolia Lee are also included.
